Indonesian on Facebook

I stumbled upon this article saying that Bahasa Indonesia is the top asian language on Facebook. Some thoughts comes into mind:
  • Last-mile connection type: Even though the last-mile internet connection in the country is getting better (fixed line), but it still way behind its neighboring countries like Singapore or Malaysia. Could it be the majority of these Facebook user connects to Facebook using mobile device (eg.blackberry)?
  • Internet penetration rate: Last time i heard (2-3 years ago), the country internet penetration rate way lower that Singapore and Malaysia. But Indonesia population is very huge. So we can easily say Indonesia has more absolute number of internet users, compare the other two countries.
  • International bandwidth price: International bandwidth are very expensive for Indonesian, that's why access to website abroad sometimes slow for Indonesian. I wonder how Facebook maintain an acceptable speed for its Indonesian user? I know some technology available such us CDN (Content Delivery Network, eg. akamai), but still it will consume connection to their servers outside the country I'm sure.
  • Language: Bahasa Indonesia is the national language of the country, and used far more often than other language in the country. Unlike Singapore or Malaysia where the common language split into english, tamil/hindi/telugu, mandarin/hakka & bahasa melayu.
Perhaps other factors also affecting the statistic. We'll see how it goes.
